It all begins with the spark of a petrol station attendant’s cigarette, setting the entire forecourt ablaze. That’s the opening image of Quaglia Sovversiva, Marco Castello’s third album, surprise-released at the end of 2025. It’s his most vivid statement yet: playful and political, elegant and furious, holding together contradictions that somehow make perfect sense.

To confront everything that’s slowly eroding his homeland, Maccucciu gathered a big band of friends united by the simple joy of playing together. Then they hit the road, turning the idea of the Italian summer on its head—mocking the glossy postcard version of the country while spitting into €20 gin and tonics sold to tourists as the promise of la dolce vita.

Always behind a pair of sunglasses, always balancing jazz sophistication with irresistible pop instincts, Marco Castello returns to Poplar on September 10. And we couldn’t be happier to welcome him back.
