MARUJA
Sunday 13 Sep
Maruja come from Manchester, and for some people that alone would be enough of a guarantee. Then you press play, and everything else falls into place. Their music pulls relentlessly in opposite directions, driven by hypnotic rhythmic patterns, tugged one way by jazz and the other by post-punk, with fiercely poetic spoken-word vocals holding it all together.
Anyone who’s seen them live will tell you the same thing: there’s no going back. Their shows are a collision of pogo pits and performance art, built around waves of tension and release, with a ferociously restless saxophone leading the charge and refusing to let anyone stand still.
Radical, uncompromising, and utterly captivating, Maruja are about to turn Doss upside down.
